Pride Parades and Celebrations in Asia
Asia is a highly diverse region where attitudes toward LGBTQ+ communities vary widely. While some countries have made meaningful progress in equality and visibility, many others still impose strong social or legal restrictions. As a result, Pride celebrations across Asia take many different forms from huge street parades to small gatherings, quiet events, or even virtual meetings. In 2025, only around fifteen of Asia’s nearly fifty countries managed to host open Pride events, highlighting both the progress achieved and the challenges that remain.
Overview of Asian Pride Events
Across Asia, Pride events reflect the region’s complex political, cultural, and social landscape. Despite the size of the continent and its nearly fifty nations, only about fifteen countries held Pride parades or similar events in 2025. In several places, the number of events has even declined due to tightening political climates and growing social pressure. In countries such as Georgia, Armenia, and Turkey, changing political environments have made it increasingly difficult to organize large-scale Pride events, while ongoing political instability in Myanmar has also prevented public celebrations.
In other parts of Asia, Pride takes on more subtle forms. Singapore, for instance, does not host a traditional protest march but instead organizes events such as community gatherings, picnics, and performances that emphasize solidarity and visibility without large-scale street demonstrations. These quieter forms of activism still play an important role in fostering community and raising awareness.
Even in countries where open demonstrations are impossible due to strict laws or severe social repression, activists continue to find ways to show solidarity. In places such as Iran and Bangladesh, where public Pride events cannot take place, members of the LGBTQ+ community have organized virtual events and online campaigns as alternative forms of protest and connection.

LGBTQ+ Rights in Asia: Visibility Under Pressure
While setbacks and restrictions are evident in several countries, there are also positive developments across the region. Thailand, long known as a hub for LGBTQ+ nightlife and tourism in Asia, has taken a significant step forward with the introduction of marriage equality legislation. Nepal has also made steady progress: following a 2023 Supreme Court order, local authorities began formally registering same-sex and non-traditional marriages throughout 2024 and 2025. Meanwhile, Vietnam has seen improving social acceptance along with expanded healthcare protections for LGBTQ+ people.
At the forefront of LGBTQ+ rights in Asia remains Taiwan, which became the first country in the region to legalize same-sex marriage. Its Pride celebrations continue to be one of the biggest pride events in Asia and attract a large amount of international vistitos.
The list below provides an overview of Pride events by capital city across Asia. In most countries where Pride celebrations take place, the main events are typically organized in the capital, making them the most visible and accessible gatherings. A few exceptions exist where Pride events are primarily held in other major cities, and these cases are noted accordingly. For countries with more than one significant Pride event in their capital, an additional table highlights the largest and most notable celebrations beyond the main national Pride.
