Tallinn Pride

Tallinn Pride is rather small compared to some of Europe’s major Pride celebrations, but it is an important signal for the region. The Pride is part of Baltic Pride, a initiative that rotates annually between the capitals of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Every third year, Tallinn takes its turn as host, bringing together local activists and LGBT+ communities from across the Baltics. After it took place last time in 2023 in the capital of Estonia its returning this year again.

Key Facts

When did Tallinn Pride first take place?

A first LGBT cultural event took place in August 2003 and the first march took place one year after in 2004 under the theme “I support free love”. Only 200 people joined the march, but it marked a historical moment, as the LGBT-community for the first time gained visibility on the streets. In 2006 the Pride march was disturbed by violance, that attacted some of the participants. For that reason the security measures in 2007 had to be tightened. Between 2008 and 2016 Pride events took place, but no March on the street was oragnized. It was only in 2017 that the pride celebrations returned to the streets in form of a public march.

Since 2009, Baltic Pride has started up and rotates between Tallinn, Riga, and Vilnius. It has become one of the most important LGBT+ visibility and community events in the Baltics.

Tallinn hosted the Baltic Pride in 2011 and 2014 as a festival (without a march) and in 2017 first time again with a street parade. Last editions took place in 2020 and 2023 in Tallinn.

How many visitors to Tallinn Pride?

In the past years the turnout for Baltic Pride was between 10,000 and 20,000 participants, where as the last edition in Tallinn saw approximatley 10,000 visitors. For 2026 a similar or even slightly higher number can be excpected.

What is the theme of Tallinn Pride this year?
